Welcome to Diabetics Anonymous -
Come and join our online community
My name is Stephen and I'm a Diabetic! - And a pretty angry one too.  I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in early 2001 and have spent the last six years fighting.  I haven't been fighting the disease but a far more cunning and dangerous foe - me.

I have deceived myself, my family and my friends.  I have brought the state of denial to hitherto unassailable heights. But on Tuesday November 9 2004 my sugar level reached 367 (20.3 for those in the UK) and I reached my limit.

I visited my doctor and he put me on a diet and new medication and I decided to share it with the world - which probably means my wife (just checking my spelling) and a few people reaching this site by mistake.

In August of 2006 I had knee surgery to correct a torn meniscus cartilage and I used it as an excuse to eat chocolate and lots of nice carbohydrate-rich foods, stop exercising, and stop taking my sugar level readings.  This approach to treating "my diabetes" worked about as well as the last thirty-seven times that I tried it - a definition of insanity if ever there was one!

During my long lay-off I didn't even visit this site more than a couple of times but in one important way I wasn't being completely idle. I was being very busy working with my business partner John to create another Web site for diabetics - My Sugar Level.

My Sugar Level is a visual management tool for diabetics.  You can use it to plot easy to understand charts for your blood sugar levels, weight, HbA1c, cholesterol, triglycerides, waist size, exercise, and blood pressure.  You can even setup a viewer account so that your healthcare professional and/or mentors can check how you're doing whenever they want to.

Just one more thing, Diab Anon is not affiliated with any other organization and does not have a 12 step program (at least yet).
